Are you ready for 24 days of live music, live animals, games, crafts and much, much more!? Head on over to the State fair of Texas. Every year, thousands of visitors flock from around the state to visit the state fair in Dallas. This year the fair runs from September 30th through October 23rd. It’s the longest running fair in the state with plenty of things to do and see so you better start planning your visit now.
Over the course of the 24 days, there are 75 live concerts featuring 24 grandstand acts from big names such as country star Kacey Musgraves, Colton Dixon, and Nelly. Other regional acts take up the small stages during the week and feature some of the best local talent around. For a complete list of acts you can visit www.bigtex.com.
Other attractions at the fairgrounds include a Lone Star stampede, light shows, acrobatics, pig races, and an auto show. The Budweiser Clydesdales will be present for photo ops; and hundreds of vendors will be on site selling their homemade crafts and unique gift items. Plus, there are plenty of activities for the kids as well including a petting zoo, face painting, and tons of carnival-like rides for a fun-filled day. If the kiddos can stay up, there is a Starlite parade every night at 7:15 with lighted floats in the theme of the fair.
What most people come to the fair for though is the food. From your deep fried Oreos and cheese curds, to hot and juicy turkey legs, and Frito pie, there’s nothing like filling up on food that you only find during fair time. Some of the best chef’s from around the state will be showcasing their talents and delicious fare. For the non-professionals, there are opportunities to get your delicacies recognized through the various cook-offs and tastings. If you don’t mind the extra pounds you might tack on from sampling all the wonderful food, it’s one of the best parts about the fair.
Most fairs only last a week or two, but the state fair of Texas truly follows the state’s motto of “everything’s bigger in Texas” by running for nearly a month! What better way to kick off the start of fall than with a little food, tunes, and fun! Plan your fair itinerary today!
