Things to Do This Memorial Day Weekend
Summer is just around the corner and with the start of summer comes the big Memorial Day Weekend. According to AAA, this year will be the largest memorial day travel weekend since 2005. AAA also expects some of the lowest gas prices on memorial day that we’ve seen in the last 5 years. If there was ever a time to plan a fun trip somewhere, Memorial Day Weekend would be a great time to do it. If you don’t have any plans yet, we've got you covered. Here are some events going on in the Austin, Texas area Memorial Day Weekend.
Carry the Load Memorial Day March
The meaning of Memorial Day has become lost in the shuffle of all the ongoing parties and festivities that happen during this weekend. The true purpose of memorial day was to remember those who have served this country with great valor and those who have lost their lives in an effort to do so. If you want to get back to the true meaning of Memorial Day, then Carry the Load Memorial Day March is the place to do it. Challenge yourself to a 20.15 mile walk at Reveille Peak Ranch in Burnet, Texas. If you aren’t quite ready for that type of challenge you can walk less miles or help out around the base camp. Everyone is welcome to participate and you can register for just yourself or start a team. There is no fee to participate in the walk. If you really want to get the feel of what our soldiers had to endure, some participants will carry backpacks filled with extra weight or sentimentals to get the full on experience. The march is Sunday May 24th, the day before Memorial Day and starts at 7:00 am. There is camping available onsite and some campsites include RV hook ups. Reservations will fill up fast so if you want to camp out at Reveille Peak Ranch you’ll want to reserve your spot as soon as possible.
Duchman Family Winery Memorial Day Celebration
Get ready for food, drinks, and fun! Come join the festivities at Duchman Family Winery on Monday May 25th from 12-5pm. There will be musical entertainment by the Texassippitwo Band, lawn games, a tasting room and their entire wine list available for purchase. The winery will also be offering $5 glasses of Dolcetto as their special. If you want to enjoy some delicious food while you’re there, purchase an advanced lunch ticket to enjoy BBQ pulled chicken, deluxe cheeseburgers, or deluxe veggie burger baskets. Ticket sales end Thursday May 21st. This will be a great event if you’re looking for something low key to do this Memorial Day.
Memorial Day Cookout with Crooks and Anthony Ray Wright
Enjoy some darn good country music at The ABGB in Austin, TX on Monday May 25th at 7:00pm. The event will feature performances by Crooks and Anthony Ray Wright. The Crooks bring back traditional country with a raw honest feel. If you’re looking for a rowdy late night show then Crooks will take you there. Anthony Ray Wright brings a little bluegrass into the mix with his fast finger picking riffs and old timey sound. This is a great event for country music lovers alike and anyone looking to have some late night fun for the holiday.
