Summer is Here
The summer days and 100-degree temperatures are fast approaching, so that means it’s time to plan your summer lake trip! Whether you can sneak away for a week or just a weekend, here are our recommendations to spend some time in the water.
Emma Long Metropolitan Park
Located on Lake Austin, Emma Long Metropolitan Park is ranked as a “Texas Outside Favorite Park” due to the beautiful setting and surroundings as well as the location of the camp sites right on the bank of the lake. The 20 water and electric sites at ELMP are paved, doublewide, but a bit short. All sites have a 20 AMP hook up, and a few have 30 AMP capabilities. Many sites say that ELMP is somewhat dates, so not to expect the newest and the brightest. Some notable amenities include: half basketball court, a fishing pier, 12 miles of hiking and biking trails, and sand volleyball courts.
South Shore Park
South Shore Park, located on Lake Bastrop, has 12 waterfront campsites that include water and electric. 6 campsites that also have sewer hookups, and 20 general campsites with water and electric (30/50 AMP). Notable amenities include: swim areas, tetherball courts, hiking and biking trails, and Osprey Point Hall equipped with air conditioning that is perfect for family reunions or other group events. The hall can seat no more than 80 inside, or 120 if the outside picnic tables are used. Outside that hall there are horseshoe pits, washer pits, and large group smoker/BBQ.
Caddo Lake State Park
If you are looking to spend great time out on the water or love to ski, this is the lake for you. There are 65 campsites on location, several of which have hookups. These sites are not directly on the water, but have easy access. This is a great park to stay and explore Big Cypress Bayou if you are a boat owner. The bayou leads into Caddo Lake, the only natural lake in Texas. The Bayou is narrow and straight, making it perfect for skiing or wakeboarding. There is never a ton of boat traffic, making ideal conditions for water sports all day! Notable amenities include: dual boat ramp, amphitheater, canoe rentals, recreational hall, hiking trails, playground and pontoon boat tours.
The Vineyards Campground
This site on Lake Grapevine is one of the best RV parks and campgrounds in Texas. Its location is ideal if you want to explore Grapevine or the Dallas/ Ft. Worth area as well. The site is located on and around two peninsulas and has sites that are within 50 to 100 yards of the water. Since it’s transition from Silver Lake Campground into the Vineyards Campground in 2006, there have been over $2 million worth of improvements. Since then this campground has been awarded the “Guest Rated A” certification for 6 years in a row. They are only one of six RV parks in the nation to accomplish this feat. According to Texas Outside, “Some of the reasons for all the accolades is because the campground is excellent condition, meticulously maintained and very clean, the sites are great, and the park is staffed by some of the friendliest and most helpful work campers we have encountered.” Notable amenities include: playground and playscape, group pavilion , fishing pier, fishing cleaning station, laundry room, very clean showers and bathrooms, kayak rentals, state of the art camp store with stapes and souvenir, outdoor events stage, short nature trail. Activities are hosted throughout the year including family game night and yoga events.
