    Must Try Insect Repellent Alternatives

Keep the Mosquitos Away This Summer

Summer is in full swing right along side camping season, bringing out our little blood sucking friends for a feast. If you don’t want to become a mosquito snack and don’t like the lingering smell of harsh chemicals, then you should try some of these great natural and alternative insect repellents. All tried and true with great reviews!

    Homemade Bug Spray

This homemade bug spray doesn’t call for many ingredients and smells great! It only requires five ingredients and is really easy to make. Plus you can add whatever scents you prefer to tailor it to your senses.

    Ingredients:

    • Essential oils: Your choice of Citronella, Cedar, Eucalyptus, Cajeput, Catnip, Mint, Tea Tree, Lemongrass, Clove, Rosemary or Lavender.
    • Natural Witch Hazel
    • Distilled or boiled Water
    • Vegetable glycerin (optional)

    Directions:

    1. Fill an 8 oz spray bottle with distilled or boiled water.
    2. Add witch hazel and fill almost to the top.
    3. Add a ½ teaspoon of vegetable glycerin (optional)
    4. Add 30-50 drops of essential oils to your desired scent. The more oils used the stronger your spray will be. Not sure what to use? Try this combination of cajeput, cinnamon, clove, eucalyptus, lavender, and rosemary.

Coleman Naturals Insect Repellent Snap Band

Don’t want to hassle with reapplying your bug spray every 6 hours? Try a insect repellent snap band by Coleman. This easy to use snap band is one size fit all and requires no adjustments. The repellent itself makes no contact to the skin and is contained in a safety reservoir. You can find one of these at your local outdoor store or online. It has a 4.5 star online rating and wonderful reviews.

    Bug Spray App

You hear this saying all the time, “There’s an app for that.” If you want to keep the bugs off you this summer, there is indeed an app for that too! Take a look at at the Bug Spray Ultrasonic app by Apptomic. This app uses ultrasonic, high frequency tones emitted from your cell phone to help keep the insects away. The frequency tone is above the hearing range for most people making it virtually silent!  A perfect tech savvy alternative to traditional insect repellents. If you want to give it a try, you can go ahead and download the app right here

As you can see there are many alternatives out there for insect repellent. Whether it’s store bought, homemade, or an app, you have plenty of options to choose from.
