Are you prepared for the end of the world? That’s the latest talk anyway about the solar eclipse coming up. Whether or not you believe that is true, chances are your eyes will be glued to the sky around 1:00pm on Monday, August 21st. But where will you be watching from? There are plenty of viewing parties around Austin. Here’s a list of where to go.
The University of Texas in Austin will be hosting their viewing party at the Robert Lee Moore Hall. The party will begin at 11:41am and run until 2:39pm, the precise times are in thanks to the scientific decisions of the professors. There will be UT astronomy department members on site to discuss the eclipse.
The Austin Nature and Science Center will host a viewing party from 11am-2pm at the Planetarium. They too will have educated professionals on hand to discuss and answer questions. They will also be showing an eclipse video with real-time explanation of the making of an eclipse.
Balcones District Park will be a great outdoor area to view the eclipse take over the sky. Join fellow viewers and bring your lawn chair and some snacks.
Wells Branch Community Library will host their viewing party from 11:30am until 2pm. Free solar glasses will be provided to participants and they will have refreshments and discussion about the solar eclipse.
